Governors Urge Congress to Pass Legislation to Support U.S. Allies

WASHINGTON D.C. – The National Governors Association (NGA) today called on Congress to come together and pass legislation to support America’s national security. Governors emphasized that the supplemental bills should be a bipartisan effort that prioritizes national security amidst the growing threats to the United States.

“National Security is top of mind for Americans amidst growing global threats and instability. Passing legislation to support our allies in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan will demonstrate Congress’s commitment to our nation’s security and the security of our allies. Russian aggression in Ukraine, Iranian aggression against Israel, and growing uncertainty in the Indo-Pacific pose significant risks at home and abroad. We urge Congress to work together to pass legislation that will support our allies, reinforce our military readiness, and support our National Guard. The threats to our allies in Europe, the Middle East, and in the Indo-Pacific are serious, and we must come together and act now to lend our support,” said NGA Chair Utah Governor Spencer Cox and NGA Vice Chair Colorado Governor Jared Polis.

In November, prior to the last appropriations bill debate, NGA sent a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson encouraging Congress to work together to strengthen our national security and support Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan.
