The National Governors Association Center for Best Practices (NGA Center) hosted the Northeast Regional Transportation Electrification Workshop in Hartford, Connecticut. Transportation electrification can help achieve a variety of economic, environmental, reliability, resiliency and energy security goals. The transportation sector is moving towards greater electrification across multiple applications including light-duty and transit vehicles, bicycles and scooters, and maritime and aviation, but barriers to wide-spread adoption remain. Consequently, states are considering how to craft policies and incentives, engage stakeholders and improve the planning and financing of charging infrastructure. This is the first of four regional workshops to help states develop strategies for enhancing electric vehicle (EV) incentives and improving the planning and deployment of charging infrastructure and will include time for states to develop individual and collective action items to pursue.
